Is the sun really as bad as some people make it? Is skin cancer actually a huge risk in Australia?
>>
Australia has numerous problems.

Major one being it's largely too conservative of a country when it comes to real meaningful change. Australians have always pretty much skirted through every major economic crisis, so Australains don't really know what it's like to be in the middle of your economy in freefall, this means everyone is apathetic as fuck and wants nothing to change.

So Australia's biggest problem is Australia can't adapt and there is little to no real support for good reform, proper investment into production or to shake things up from the status quo. When Australians hear "investment" they don't think a business or research and development, they think "property", almost ALL investment in Australia is property speculation. Australia has one of the lowest amounts of capital investment in the OECD sitting around something ridiculous like 150 million annually.

It also doesn't help Australia loves the Tory LNP who are the most lazy, pretentious fuckheads ever and do absolutely fucking nothing to actually benefit the country apart from their mates with landed wealth.

Skin cancer is ridiculously prevalent here because most of us are normies who go surfing and think tans are healthy. If there's one thing decent about brown people immigration it's that they are slightly more protected then us, so maybe in 50 years the Anglo cancer holocaust will finally end

WE NEED nuclear power
>>
someone needs to start a national socialist party without becoming a totalitarian state
>>
>>61161395
I'm not sure why the mining lobby doesn't push this, probably trying to get rid of the rest of the coal and gas first.
We've always been far too paranoid about nuclear power considering we have a vast wasteland to safely dump nuclear waste in.

I wouldn't mind it but it's not going to happen, people are too crazy about it here.

But honestly we don't really NEED it. Shitloads of renewables is doable. All dat space, sunshine and wind in this country, it's absolutely achievable. Especially if we legislate so everyone needs solar panels on new houses, with new batteries that allow the storage of power.

Problem is, the miners and power companies would hate it.
>>
>>61161628
i couldn't care less about >muh emissions. All i care about is cost. What is the cheapest most efficient form?
>>
>>61161628
It's kind of hard to legislate against our largest industry.
It's why the Libs play dumb about global warming, they don't care about the future as long as they get theirs.
>>

>>
>>61161774
lol, how
>>
>>61161682
>All i care about is cost. What is the cheapest most efficient form?
That would be nuclear. But the thing about renewables is that is can be our new high-end manufacturing industry and there is a huge market for renewables worldwide. We're not going to corner the nuclear market, although we can still sell cunts our uranium.

>>61161774
oh yeah because coal and nuclear don't fuck up the environment at all. Get your head out of your arse, pierre.
>>
>>61161825
they use a fuckton of space and materials that require extensive maintenance. its massive culling of natural ecosystems. its fucking horseshit
>>
>>61161831
how is nuclear bad for the environment? its easy to contain radioactive waste
>>
>>61158685

Let me live there
>>
>>61161774
low production of energy
solar is a nightmare to maintain
windmills end up killing a shitton of birds and annoy nearby people
batteries are really polluting
both aren't even stable sources of energy
>>
>>61161865
The large amounts of materials I get but once you make the initial investment it costs nothing to the environment, unlike coal which fucks something up every step. It's the lesser of two evils.
>>
>>61161980
unfortunately they are not sustainable, the points >>61161952 made are valid factors and the cons inevitably outweigh the positives. the amount of land you'd need to dedicate would not be worth it for the amount of energy they produce
>>
>>61161902
Fill out the form and get in line.
You'll sleep peacefully without hamas around.
>>
>>61162093
Land isn't exactly an issue here, we have fucking farms the size of european countries.
>>
>>61161899
When you factor in the need to mine uranium as well as the need to store radioactive waste, it's not good for the environment. Not as bad as coal, but definitely not good. Plus the risk (however small, I am also pro nuclear) of a meltdown etc, it's not a cure-all for the environment.

>>61161952
>low production of energy
That's why you need a lot of them or have them on every new home.
>solar is a nightmare to maintain
Not really, we've had solar panels for about 5 years and have never needed maintenance.
>windmills end up killing a shitton of birds and annoy nearby people
meme issue
>batteries are really polluting
Plenty of tech uses batteries, this is a common issue and not a good argument against solar
>both aren't even stable sources of energy
they are when you have enough of them.

>>61162093
They are more sustainable than other methods, other than nuclear. Presuming you believe in climate change, and if you don't I'm not gunna have that argument.
>>
Forget nuclear power, we need nuclear weapons.
It's the only way to carve out our own independent foreign policy platform.

Do you seriously want indonesia to have nuclear weapons? Indonesia.
>>
>>61162139
all the more reason they're infeasible. farms would be much more productive in what they're used for. lets say there's an exponential quotient for both wind farms and cultivation compared to means of production and efficiency. one wind farm compared to one farm would produce far less energy than a farm would produce food. we may as well just dedicate the land to more farms.

>>61162321
a lot

Of the world's proven estimated uranium reserves (5,404,000 tonnes), 31% are held in Australia (1,673,000 tonnes), ahead of the second largest, Kazakhstan (12.1% or 651,800 tonnes).[2]
>>
>>61162274
Can't make farms on sand in the middle of the desert.

Solar and wind farms, combined with legislation to force new homes to have solar, and subsidies for homes to install solar, ALONG with batteries to store power, would go a very long way to getting rid of coal. But as I said, the power companies would hate people being able to produce and store their own power efficiently, and the miners would hate the death of coal, so it won't happen.

Here's how you're going to make Australia great again, cunts
Too many kinds of birds, eliminate the shit ones.
Bring back those fukken sick Wankel rotary engines. Legalise and mandate a minimum number of roadies/km on highways.
Holden will be ordered to keep open its Adelaide factory and acquire the rights to manufacture the Ford Falcon, Victoria Bitter, and AC/DC branded apparel.
Voting will no longer be compulsory, and can only be done by showing up at your polling place with a cattle dog in the colour of your preferred major party coalition. Minority party voters may vote with any marsupial that they can catch themselves, with the exception that Greens may also present an aborigine.
