Start by Duolingo and Memrise. Then use Micheal Thomas Introductory French to REALLY learn the tongue. Then use the internet to talk to people who are learning and the natives as well.
It's not simple but it's rewarding. I enjoy reading French, it's a harmonious, elegant language with a huge buildup of literature. Plus if you ever want to study there, they only accept people who speak French. This means France has the best international student scene, unlike Germany where every good-for-nothing can get in.

Duolingo is really useful. Memrise, not so much. But you really, really can't start studying Micheal Thomas without having completed the Duolingo tree. If you use it properly, it's pretty great. Practice, don't just burn through it.

Damn I wish I could study two languages at the same time. I want to study Computer Science in West but France is too hard to get into, and very expensive. In fact it's true about all Western countries. I don't know how in the hell there are so many international students.
