I drink for a longer time than the interval between 2 hiccups (something like 15-20 seconds I guess).
I don't know why, but for some reason it's always been 100% efficient for me.

Oh, breathing into a closed bag so you start inhaling more carbon dioxide works too, not sure why. It's one of my favorite methods since it's easier than just holding your breath.
