Ever been to Switzerland? Truth be told, they have it all figured out. Excellent railways, excellent highways, excellent tunnels, large infrastructure budget, long-term planning. it's not impossible but we have so many people living on places not really suited for people. valleys, fjords, islands and mountains that makes it a huge challenge to connect all these shitty ass villages with each other.
look at this picture. these two bridges connect two islands with 11 000 and 18 000 respectively. this is just one single example out of hundreds. it's very expensive building infrastructure in a country with this geography
but then again there is no excuse why the roads connecting our 4 biggest cities are so awful
