Such ones are at least quite easy to memorise (like yours "raining dogs and cats", "beating a dead dog with a stick" etc) and actually pretty few (in comparsion at least), but the really worst are these shorties. Like when you think you know what does "get" mean, but suddenly you open "idiom dictionary" and there is fuckin shitloads of "get +up +off +back +1000 others. And it gets pretty clear that you don't know what damn "get" means for shit.
It happens whenever I'm starting to think I know English well enough- just random idiom out of nowhere. Makes me sad.
