Is it normal to be ashamed of technically being considered Irish American? I don't even mind actual Irish people, I just hate that I'm technically part of the "HURR DURR I WEAR GREEN BOWLERS, GET DRUNK AND LISTEN TO DROPKICK MURHPYS" crowd.
You are more Irish than we are
Only mainland Europeans who are insecure with immigrants and globalism are butthurt anout this shit, you are as Irish as we are if not more

t. William McCarthy from Boston on vacation in Cork.
Look, I had two great grandparents from Cork. The rest were German and Alsatian, all I got from muh heritage was bratwurst and being raised Lutheran.
Last I checked most Irish hate Irish-Americans, anyways.
My dad likes it, makes him feel more welcome when he's visiting the states. It's dumb as shit, but it's harmless.
Irish American's are like Atheists. I don't have a problem with either one, but the fan base is so shitty I just don't bring it up anymore.

this, I went to a irish pub once, they were playing british music, watching football (not gaelic football mind) and not drinking Guinness. I think Ireland is too close to Britain, the only true irishman left are american.

You're only ashamed of it because Euros here on /int/ meme about it.
Ignore them, and just take pride in who you are. Just be aware that modern Irish culture isn't really like American Irish culture.

>who I am
Like I said, I barely got anything from Ireland and in total it's only about 1/4 of my ancestry. I was raised Lutheran, I have a German surname, a lot of the foods we eat in my house have German origins, etc.
My mom's side is German, Irish and Alsatian and from a pretty multiethnic area (Chicago suburbs), while my dad's home region (Northeast Wisconsin) is almost completely German-American.
Like I've said, I'm pretty much just like any other American at this point, but I got most of the "muh heritage" type stuff from my German side.
