Dalarna is in my opinion one of the nicest parts of sweden you can go to. Or maybe even Öland. it is a really nice island.

Okay. Denmark is more flat but has its charms around the coast for sure. Sweden has more forest and mountains if that's your thing. As for meeting people that can be done at both places.
If you have time you should visit both. Ignore Malmö in Sweden if possible for obvious reasons.

Nah I lived in a house with 6 other people. There's a train station in Märsta which runs to Stockholm and Uppsala. I did stay in a hostel in Älvsjö Stockholm for a week though. I think it cost me something like $400 for a private room
