Ultimately, I just think humans are violent creatures and that we just have to live our lives without fear regardless of what happens around us. I think the US just grew into a violent environment and that a lot of scum come and choose to live here, some preying on normal people. People aren't used to the idea of a social contract here, that's why the idea of giving up rights for safety is abhorrent to so many. 9/11 changed that and I think we'll see major changes towards gun ownership laws in due time, for better or for worse.
