I think the issue is two fold:
1) We've partly politicized science so that it's a """liberal""" thing to be into. This problem is only aggravated by people like Bill Nye and Neil deGrasse Tyson who mix their political view in with science. The only logical result is that conservatives are pushed away from accepting these ideas, as they're now mixed with political ideologies they stand against.
2) We do a pretty shit job at explaining what evolution is. People think it's just a theory, and that's what I thought too until I reached the upper level classes of my bio major. It's an entire SCIENCE that can explain so much of the world around us. There are so many misconceptions floating around about evolution, and it is painfully obvious, as many skeptics ask things like: "why do gorillas still exist if humans are around?" Any bio major can answer this in detail, but pseudo-scientist know-it-all teenage liberals usually respond and give a shitty answer. The skeptic can detect this and only becomes further entrenched in their beliefs.
It's a really annoying issue that is really caused by both sides.

Partly. Many schools in the US aren't as religious as they're stereotyped to be. I went to a school on the east coast, and they made sure to explain religion as objectively as possible in a socio-cultural context (rather than as a truth).

Another huge aspect is physical constraints. For instance, dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were dominant during their time period. They were, what we are today: the kings of the world. The higher oxygen concentrations during the time afforded things to grow to much LARGER scales. Many trees grew to large sizes to outcompete other trees in reaching sunlight or growing their root systems. Herbivores evolved to reach these large tree leaves, and the carnivores followed suit, all filling niches where they could survive. Now, why didn't we fill the niche of being super-armored birds with gigantic jaws for ripping flesh to shreds like the dinosuars? Well, physical constraints (like the oxygen levels in our atmosphere) prevented us from becoming this, so we found another niche to fill through intelligence which offered coordination and communication.

This is another common misconception that a lot of people accidentally spread to others. Evolution is NOT an ever-present force. If a population is able to consistently reproduce generation after generation, and no pressures occur such as competition, disease, disasters, predators, etc. (there are MANY things that can cause pressures!), then that species is under NO pressure to evolve! Yes, there exists random genetic elements like recombination that could potentially alter the population over time if a trait becomes fixed because it is favorable, however, populations are more than capable of remaining stagnant and NOT evolving. Humans are a great example. There ARE events in human history that have resulted in evolution (bubonic plague!!!!), but by and large, homo sapiens as a whole are able to reproduce over and over, so there is no great pressure to currently force evolution. In fact, scientists have found species of plants that can ALTER the way they reproduce! When they are pressured by outside elements, these plants can switch to sexual reproduction, which is more energy intensive, but affords genetic diversity through recombination, OR if they're NOT pressured, they can switch to asexual reproduction, where they basicallly clone themselves because there is no need to have genetic diversity! That's a very good point. Some subjects are very taboo. When we defeated Japan in WW2, we clamored to get Unit 731's barbaric research on humans, while absolutely vowing off conducting that abysmal shit ourselves.
I personally don't know too much about the subjects you mentioned. I do know that we can't completely eliminate race from science like some people want, as race can be a good risk indicator for certain diseases in medicine. For example, blacks may be more pre-disposed to a certain kind of cancer, or whites may be more pre-disposed to developing genetic abnormalities.
Hypothetically, if I was a scientist who wanted to research into non-PC stuff, I'd probably look to the middle east or other conservative nations. They'd probably fund that kind of research, although you will be lambasted by most of the western scientific world. I don't think it's the government that disallows the kind of research you mentioned, but they can deny funding (if that's what you meant). Private funders may support that work, but many mainstream journals will hesitate to publish

I don't think you understand white privilege. It doesn't mean that all white people are guaranteed better lives than all black people. It's just that there are certain perks white people have in western nations.
Media that appeals to white people is widely available. Black media is low quality and a slim selection. Black people that don't live in black areas are constantly aware of their blackness. This has been shown to increase anxiety, disillusionment and problems with identity. Also there are implicit bias tests that show that most people are subconsciously biased against certain races. This includes blacks subconsciously thinking worse of other blacks. If you look up implicit association test you can read more about it.
Now I'm not saying that black people deserve special treatment or that their lives are destined to be way worse than white people's. However to say there aren't any perks to being white (i.e. white privilege) just isn't true.

Having lived in, and attended schools in diverse cities before, I can tell you it's a bit different than that. Most of my neighbors were of course white, but I still saw blacks, hispanics, and asians daily, which is a hell of a lot more diverse than the 100% white republican suburbs I've lived in before. Also at the high school level, and in some places at the middle school level, schools are no longer divided by geographical location, so you DO get the diversity of the entire city.
