I know, my Grandfather was an occupation soldier in Denmark since he was too young to go to a real war. Since we live really close to the border, he could come home on a free day. When the war ended, he was back home in civilian clothing before the Brits came.

Germany is still pretty stronk. Also, it's very hard to get promoted in the German officer corps, so they can be very selective. In that sense being a smaller army is an advantage. It's similar to the situation they had under the Versailles treaty.
