Then people watched helplessly and aimlessly as economic system is transitioned and THEN they were surprised that people unscrupulous enough to abuse faults in the transition mechanism (like poor control of financial transaction, shareholder ownership rights and fraud prevention) got absurdly rich and powerful, and that people with connections from the previous era (mostly socialist secret service operators and collaborators) have most opportunity as well as no inhibitions when it comes to taking advantage from it. And so the optimism and hope quickly gave way to disenchantment, skepticism and mild depression.
