The church here always had a strong relation with national identity since Catholicism was usually conflated with being Polish back in the multiculti days - while Ruthenians were Orthodox, Germans were Protestants, Tatars were Muslims, Jews were Jews etc.

Bohemia was basically the birthplace of protestantism and managed to repel crusades against it and keep it for a while. But in the 1600s came pic related, basically a catholic zealot who didn't want any protestants in his lands and also curbed a lot of the rights Czech estates managed to secure for themselves. This didn't sit well with them so they defenestrated the viceroys and elected an anti-king. Cue the start of the 30 Years War. The estates lost pretty quickly and Ferdinand began what was basically a genocide on religious grounds. Everyone had to convert to Catholicism or get out of Bohemia. So everyone who felt strongly about religion got out.
Catholics were also all too eager to support the Habsburgs so those who were anti-Habsburg were usually anti-catholic too. After WW1 and independence, catholics lost most of their influence and the new churches didn't really have any roots and weren't allowed to take any since WW2 came about and then commies. Unlike Poland, church here wasn't any symbol of resistance and after centuries worth of propaganda and snitching on each other, a Czech won't believe you if you say it's Thursday and even less when you tell him of some weird metaphorical concepts and God's love.

It's more like nearly everyone pays their church tax (which isn't that great desu) and is confirmed. Which basically warrants for them being "Christian".
