Indian art and culture thread

lol wut
It's hard to find quality images of interiors. Maybe cameras aren't allowed inside.

Is this poor satire? I don't get it.
Dropping by to say I'm lurking

stop embarrassing the flag
>>60548559
He was referring to the human sacrifice post.
don't bother posting serious Indian things here, uneducated firangs don't appreciate it and just shitpost instead.
>>60548605
>"elephant" god
no.
>>60545654
Inside of that cave are many shrines like pic related.
>>60548941
Any idea where this is?
>>60548917
>>60548956
Please, let's not make this into a Poortugal thread
>>60548956
> average poor people in a queue
making an artistic or cultural point here?
>>60549215
Cultural, maybe an Indian could explain it to me but how does pelvic contact happen in queues? In most places around the world strangers avoid physical contact. As a matter of fact if anyone came that close to me I'd assume they were trying to pickpocket me.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/the-most-honest-cities-in-the-world-8839046.html
For good reason: It seems you're more likely to get your wallet stolen in Portugal than anywhere in the world. Mumbai was on the opposite end of that spectrum.
>>60549175
Filename gave it away. But I would have had no idea it was near dehli-jaipur area. wow...
>>60549316
Just a cultural difference. Westerners value their 'personal space' a lot - both physical and metaphorical. We, not so much. Even in everyday life neighbors and friends will just wander into your house without asking (in smaller towns), something not possible in America for sure.
t. Indian citizen
>>60549434
>Implying that sample and in fact all the methodology used to determine honesty has any real meaning.
>>60549175
Maybe Himachal? Looks northern, relatively new construction to me.
>>60544737
great picture
>>60549554
Yup, It is 15th century in Rajasthan.
>>60549516
11 of 12 wallets were stolen in Lisbon. That can't be a coincidence.
>>60549637
Stolen and not returned are not the same thing, the experiment is interesting but it wasn't done under the right conditions.
>>60549472
>>60549554
I was asking about that vishnu pic you posted.
quality thread, post more
>>60549675
>Stolen and not returned are not the same thing
This. Anon just paraphrased it incorrectly though, the study itself presents itself fine.
ok, I will
>a fucking wheel
>>60549743
I don't really feel like typing a huge paragraph because it's pretty late and I'm sleepy, but the part of the city where the wallets are dropped can completely alter the results, there are other variables too, and again, 12 is not representative.
>>60549683
Ahhh. Badami caves in Karnataka! Beautiful place, the lake is man-made and the caves are nearby.
so butifel, what went so wrong?
I am not a britbongistan btw.

Nobody calls all Russian culture the same as Bydlo people. Have some brains and decency.
>>60549948
>what went so wrong?
Muslims and Brits.
>>60549979
Toilets were actually invented by the Indus Valley Civilization.
>>60550029
it's not that I wanted someone to offend
>>60550042
Vlad, I really doubt you'd want anyone to post pictures of Ivan shooting up krokodil while squatting in his jumpsuit. Poverty porn is pointless.
>>60550029
>>60550150
>have some brains and decency
No need to be so defensive. The cremation ghats are also part of the culture.
>>60549705
That you ilya?
>>60550150
Why do you hurt? I like threads with gray commieblocks
>>60550254
sure
>>60550000
I'll post in your absence. Shubh ratri.
>>60550254
>cremation ghats
yes, but its out of context for westerners and the rest of his pictures are the equivalent of commieblocks.
>>60550294
Ok I understand, but its not really 'art' or 'culture' in the usual sense.
>>60550316
>WE WUZ VEDIC ARYANS
And so were you.
More Karnataka...
>>60550510
neat.
>>60550479
I'm just bumping this thread
I love Indian architecture, but I also know that I would get the most massive shits if I visited India. Anyone here have experience traveling in India? Is it as bad as the memes say? I've been to China and it was nowhere as bad as the memes said it would be, I'm hoping India is the same.
I'll post some that I took a few years back. Quite a beautiful country aside from the megacities.
>>60550614
Nah it really isn't that bad. Just watch what you eat and don't drink the water. Most of the people who get stomach problems are eating retarded shit like lassi and getting ice in their drinks. I was there for eight months and never had any problems with the food.
>>60550593
Thank you Russ-Bro :)
>>60550614
I'm an Indian, but as with anything, just be careful where and what you eat and drink. Street food is delicious but you can't really eat it until you live there for months.
Besides that and avoiding getting ripped off, there should be no issue.
India is fascinating
>>60550691
>>60548672
>I don't appreciate indian culture because I think OP's pictures are uninteresting
Great logic
>>60550614
Usually it's the tourist traps like Delhi, Agra, Puri, etc. that have the worst reputations among Indians themselves. But then again, Delhi has some of the richest people in the world, so it's easy to find 5-star accommodations.
Posting less architecture now. Have some festivals, etc.
>>60550614
Yes.
Almost as bad.
India is worse.
>>60550904
Specifically, the tourist traps are meh and expensive.
The "authentic" places are shitholes.
The Ganges is horrible.
Delhi's air pollution is worse than Beijing's.
But the Southern cities and Mumbai have nice places. The places assumed to be most mediocre in India are actually the best.

The dynasty responsible for the Karnataka temples I posted are the Badami Chalukyas, who ruled from the 6th to 8th century AD. During one ruler's time, over 90 such temples were built.
>>60552738
34 cave-temple complexes were cut into the mountain at Ellora, so that Buddhist, Jain and Hindu monastic groups could work.

India actually makes some good films too. I would recommend:
The Warrior (2001) for some beautiful scenery in Rajasthan. It's on netflix

If you want to see some amazing Indian historical treasures, check out the Al-Thani collection. Sad how much of India's wealth has been looted.

>>60556410
They're carved entirely out of those monolithic rock faces. The same applies to Elephanta, Ellora, Ajanta, etc. See: >>60544424
I can't imagine the amount of planning, precision and manpower that went into them.
>>60556741
You should make these threads more often, I'm still poking around through it, my main focus is Rome, which adds to the interest, they actually actively traded in India. Is your family Indian?
>>60556876
My family is indeed Indian. But what do you mean your main focus is Rome? Are you a researcher?
>>60544594
impressive titties
Do you have to pay to visit all these old temples and stuff or is it open to the public? They look really cool
>>60558660
thank you
>>60558813
Most are completely free. The most famous ones have small ($5) entrance fees.
>>60546016
I'm not sure if that's the one by the Rajastan border close to the Taj Mahal, but if it is, this picture does it more justice than it deserves. The local villagers use it as a place to throw trash into. Maybe it's been cleaned up in the last 5 years, but that was how it was at least when I went there.
Do you people actually enjoy hajmola? My girlfriend tried to convince me they're like candy, but they just taste fucking horrible to me. Tell me that Indian people claiming these taste good is some kind of prank. Please.
>>60562111
Not really they smell and taste bad desu.
But are considered good for the gut
>>60562313
I do eat them from time to time if I think I'm gonna get indigestion from eating something yeah. Generally seems to work.
Glad at least some of you don't like them. I thought you had good taste.
>>60543376
I ways there once. Very friendly people.
