It's exactly the opposite. If ISIS managed to take over the world in the 80s, it'd be over. History and cultures would be permanently erased, and 1000 years in the future we'd know very little about our time let alone the Romans. But now that we have the internet? It's all accessible. We know what's out there, we know what it's like to live in an advanced society. The internet made it nearly impossible to have another dark age.
