If it matters guy, I lived with a Tai guy for years. He was in the Taiwanese military as an officer, I did not ask anything beyond that. We bonded a bit because I was a Paratrooper. Good dude, because of him I eventually met my wife, but he moved on and settled in Tennessee as a Mechanical Engineer if memory serves me right.

Not really. Hong Kong is literally part of China, like Puerto Rico being part of the US despite having its own flag and some special autonomy. Belarus is (nominally) an independent country. Taiwan isn't part of China at all, it's completely independent for all intents and purposes but isn't formally recognized as such.
