>semi detached houses
Is it like a small version of apartment?

It's a house attached to another house like in the op pic.

This is what the average British street looks like

Not common, but yes

they are common in Brooklyn, and other parts of New York City.

many were built after world war 2 for returning veterans. since the homes were joined it allowed for quicker construction since only one foundation would have to be built instead of multiple foundations. infact we have alot of row houses going back to the turn of the century, but i believe semi attache became more popular as private automobile ownership increased after ww2

Is this categorized as semi detached houses?
This is not common in Japan, but it's not rare to see this type of house.
This building has 4 entrances, so each house is separated internally, but appearance is much different from yours... (Yours is much greater than ours.)

they are common in Philadelphia and some of the inner suburbs (we call them twins) but less common nationwide

West Philly has some nice victorian ones that yuppie families like to gentrify but most are plainer

Those are row houses.
>>

Semi detached house just one two houses, if you have many houses attached they're called terraced or row houses. We have them in city centres but they're typically filled with poorer people.
>>
Yes. We call them Townhouses here. They're not as popular as they are in the UK, but there's plenty of them. I lived in one back in 2007-2008. Got tired of my neighbors being so closed and I really didn't need all that room, so I downsized to a much newer nicer apartment.

Anything to put more room between me and my neighbors than I currently have
>apartment feels
>>
>>60311262
No, but I've seen them around.

Thanks for the explanation.
Now, I have a confident to say that there is almost no semi-detached house in Japan.

Seems like the semi-detached houses are for upper-middle class people.
So.. Why don't they choose to live in normal single houses? What is the benefit to share the building with another family? You can't enjoy music with big volume, because the next family would complain about your big noise.
>>
>>60312430
It's because land is very expensive because we're so densely populated. I must say though houses are very well insulated in the UK, I have lived in 3 houses and never had any issues with neighbours noise.
>>
>>60311262
We call that a duplex, britfriend.
>>
>>60313873
And if there's more than two units, we call it a townhouse
>>
>>60311262
No we have townhouses but none are connected as blatantly as that shit because we are a big country

P.S that is fucking hideous. I've always despised british home architecture, looks third world.
