enlighten me great republican terrorist, tell me your secrets
I just assumed people got lazy and started naming shit Guinea and adding a descriptor. Kinda like how the Brits came to North America and started naming cities and regions after English cities and regions and sometimes applying "New". Or like how the Dutch named New Zealand after some backwater region of their tiny country. Easter Island and Christmas Island. No creativity.

Easter ?
The English term Guinea comes directly from the Portuguese word Guiné, which emerged in the mid-15th century to refer to the lands inhabited by the Guineus, a generic term for the black African peoples below the Senegal River, as opposed to the 'tawny' Zenaga Berbers, above it, whom they called Azenegues or Moors.
