got your point but i think modern art is shit because it's mostly done by talentless people with rich family who just want to seem different. meanwhile talented and creative few are probably working as taxi drivers, white collars, engineers etc because they need money to survive. ofc they could learn and do better via learning from history, but i think a talented one doesn't need to rely on history. first painters/artists didn't have a reference so they came up with their own ideas that shaped the next generation's view of art and the next ones are influenced by them. were their next generation creative? probably yes, but they could me more creative without using a reference.
