Would you rather be able to speak multiple foreign languages to a conversation/newspaper level or know 1 foreign language practically fluently?

If the former, one language perfectly. It's easy to reach newspaper level, but truly mastering a language is a lot more work.

the first one obviously. all the benefits of being able to talk in loads of different countries and it would be a stepping stone to become fluent in one of those languages at least if I wanted to..

Most of time you hear this in practice its actually 3 at most
I'm talking actual fluency: being able to read literature and understand it perfectly, etc..
