What is there to be proud of in the German identity? All of it is pre-unification. As a political entity, ever since its inception Germany has achieved NOTHING I would consider a good influence in the world.
Colonial empires are often seen as the definition of evil, but even if they were cruel and racist, they brought good things to the uncivilized nations of the world too. Every one of the major nations of Europe has done things both bad and good, only Germany is a nation that constantly fucked up and never did anything right, unless that right thing was sucking America's nads.
