probably this, a jap submarine torpedoed her despite being a clearly marked hospital ship, there are a few theories why but I-777 was sunk in 1944 with all hands so nobody ever found out

September is quite warm here. Water is a bit chilly though, but it's not freezing.
This was a steam transport ship on Lake Balaton, it was originally designed to transport 150 people but without regards to stability this got upped to 200.
In a windy day it capsized and 23 died.
