Basically the media has access to much more information about criminals and details about specific weird crimes in that state than they do any other place in the country. The long and the short of it is floridians aren't out commiting strange or heinous crimes any more than any other state, they just don't have the laws other states do to prevent information about crime activity to be accessed by the media and published. You realize that the federal government isn't going to do that, right? It's entirely a budget matter. If you're in a state with several large military bases it may mean more state money for you, but if you live in any of the states where there isn't a significant military presence that means higher federal taxes and no break from the state.
