The Russian is right.
The West has always needed an enemy. A pariah. Russia didn't get any Western help. They were left on their own, and as expected of most new democracies, they failed to achieve it fully.
You can't just implant liberal democracy into a society. It's not how it works.
Why else did we keep NATO, and then expand it? Russia was pathetic in 1998. Losing to its own territories and people.
Yet we expanded closer to it three times and destroyed it allies in the Balkans and Middle East.
Russia is the enemy of America's making. And that's why the Russian is right. You can't "give" yourself a chance.
