Did the abos even have names for places?
Around here, the native names all translate to something inane like "the place where we dig up roots" or "the place with the rocks".
The state went through a process to rename places that were called "Indian ____" or "Squaw ____" and so they went to the local tribes to get names. So we ended up with a creek with a good native name that means "The Throat Slitting Place".
