AKM used by oldschool guys from Spetznaz from very far places, those who do not trust VSS Vintores or Val (9x39), because for AKM there are a suppressor and special ammo for it (7.62x39).

Some special forces (especially who often travel to Dagestan) used AKM because of 75-rnd drums. But often they use AK-100 series for it (AK-103, AK-104).

Most army used AK-74M.

They're pretty decent for jungle warfare, since lots of stuff in the way, 7.62 must be used. But since 2012 the military been replacing them with 5.56 IA2 rifle, even though it has a 7.62 that will go for the jungle warfare units. Basically a lighter version of the FAL.

It made sense to give it to me because I was artillery crew, not frontline soldier. And running in and out of cramped vehicles, a small weapon is handy.

But if you got in an actual fight, the range on an MP5 is horrible. Iagine being out in the woods, and the bullet drop is insane. Not sure exactly when the bullet starts dropping but over 100 meters I'd say you're fucked and you have to start lobbing your bullets at your target. It's only good for short engagements.

the joke was that the first L-85 was so fucking bad they had to give it to heckler and koch to fix it rudimentarily and it STILL is a piece of shit. there are some statistics floating around the web that show just how horrible (i recall sth like >80% failure rate in cold conditions) it was before h&k patched it around, but i can't be arsed to find them right now.

I have a gun from FN Herstal sitting at my grandma's (They live 5 minutes away from Herstal). I think it's a P90 but i'm not quite sure. What should I do with it? Both my grand parents used to work there as engineers but my grandpa passed out. My grandma (who is still alive) told me once they were gifted a gun from FN Herstal.

Wealthy teenagers have a weird obsession with military and guns here in Brazil for some reason.

The Brazilian military is a rusty piece of shit more corrupt than the government and yet they worship it as if it was a gigantic military powerhouse that makes the world tremble in fear.

I think it's what happens when a country is so unequal, the elite's children live secluded from society so they have these weird fantasies of power.

A rifle might be better at handling moisture than a similar rifle is better at handling dust and sand depending on how they are built thus we have a lot of different types of similar rifles that essentially do the same things in different environments.

IA2 7.62 = Imbel FAL
IA2 5.56 = MD-97L

http://www.planobrazil.com/exercito-brasileiro-adota-oficialmente-o-fuzil-imbel-ia2-556-mm/

The 7.62 version and 5.56 aren't even related to each other(except for the fact the Imbel MD-1 was Imbel's attempt at making a 5.56 FAL). Originally the IA2 5.56×45mm was called MD-97A2, but the MD-97 has a really bad reputation for jamming all the time and magazine falling out if the gun gets heated up and even firing by itself even when set to safe, so they gave it a new name.

Another thing is that Imbel can only manufacture around 8,000 rifles per year. That's why Brazilians claiming the Brazilian military uses IA2 is bullshit. It will take at least 10 years or more to fully equip all Brazilian soldiers with the IA2.

They've been producing since 2012, i think at this rate a large number are already in hand. Without counting the Police force who also bought some batches. Of course, the majority still with the 7.62(pic related), which it should be desu. Plus we're not in war either, so of course it will be quite slow.

Operation Agata was a propaganda operation to show it to American, German, Russian, Chilean, Argentinean officers who were visiting Brazil to see it.

It was made like a movie, with cameras set up like a film set and even a script.

The fact they couldn't equip everyone with IA2 to impress the gringos is hilarious.

Actually EOtechs and ACOGs are export controlled. Civilians here can buy them (sold in every gun store) but its illegal to send them outside the country. Its kind of a silly law because they end up being bought by chinese and russian spys here and shipped back to the homeland to end up on their special forces weapons. Every once in a while it'll pop up in the news that a russian or chinese will get arrested for it (though normally its night vision or thermal sights).
