Tabernac is a french canadian insult, it's the equivalent of saying "god damnit" or"jesus fucking christ" or taking the lords name in vein along those lines. french canadians are(were) predominately catholic, the tabernac is where they keep the Eucharist in church. you're essentially swearing against christ when you say the word.
