That vid was indeed a bad example. Almost all windows here (unless the house is from before 1940 or so) have rolling shutters which block nearly all light completely, while to my knowledge most of Murrica still has shitty blinds only.
Probably has to do with the fact that we live on average way farther to the North of you, so in late June it starts getting bright outside already by around 4am, and you really don't wanna get woken up that early
Americans have AC so we have no need to open windows for cooling the house and we have screens to keep bugs out.

Yeah, keeping the room at bearable temperature plays a role too. During exceptional heatwaves here (highs/lows of 40/25°C, probably qualifies as average to cool summer day for you) I keep the shutters down all day, it helps keeping indoor conditions staying barely tolerable because I have no AC
