>forget about the NZ flag thing for a while
>remember the bantz, look it up again
>NZ voted to keep its original, classic, absolutely-nothing-wrong-with-it flag by a double-digit margin

It doesn't matter, the government already wasted millions on a stupid fucking campaign no one asked for.
It was probably a monkey laundering scheme desu.
All their options were shit so they didn't really have a real choice even if they wanted to get rid of their Australia jr. flag

It's a timeless flag that says "Come to New Zealand, we're like Australia only smaller"

>We fucked up so badly I can't do anything but backpedal when others are right

That's actually literally a good thing, though.
A flag, a really good one anyway, is supposed to be a simple design that (hopefully) also gives you a clue of where you are in the world. Local colors. Some of them /should/ looks somewhat similar, in that they repeat basic themes of their region.
green, white, black, red? Middle east, check.
basic four-color, maybe some white/black? Africa, check.
Nordic cross? North Europe, check (Denmark did it first and best. :^)
Southern cross? Southern hemisphere, check. More specifically, union-jack thing too? Historical UK descendants, "Australia-land", check.

Better, seeing blue on a red background seems odd
