By normal Europeans, not say /int/ people, are Gypsies considered to fully be members of the countries they live in?
I know Gypsies are not liked, and I know the reasoning, we don't have to go over that. But I've seen far-right people say they're NOT European and need to go back to India, based on their millenia-old heritage roots
On the other hand, would a gypsy in Romania be considered, for all intents and purposes, a Romanian? Is it kind of a grey area between being Romanian and being foreign?
Are they considered fully Romanian/Hungarian etc. but a parallel society, much like Amish or Cherokee in the USA?

Here they have clearly their own culture, so they can't fully be considered to be a part of the mainstream population. Yet, Finnish gypsies are clearly different from any other countries' gypsies and their culture is known by the whole nation for its distinctive features. So in that sense, I would argue that they are a genuine Finnish group of people. There isn't such a group elsewhere

A different society/different world here. Because of the past century socialism, they had to be forcefully integrated into the hungarian society with very VERY VERY mixed results. The "integration" was done because even in the middle of the 20th century they were more nomadic and could not be checked upon.
Since the motto kinda was "total control" of the state politics stepped in. Even today its not uncommon hear about extreme cases, like horses being kept in the rooms of old commie block buildings.
Many of them want to "feel" free and not being tied down in any sense (place/work/parenthood etc.) and just want to live day-by-day without a plan for the future which many times backfires and force them into "fast" moneymaking (stealing)
The minority of this minority, who actually do actively contribute (not the sudden "stars", celebs, politicians) are quite vocal againts their uncooperative brethren who only make things "worse" for the workforce.
