Tell me about Istanbul

So, next year i'm probably moving to Istanbul, due to my father being offered a job with the United Nation there, I could go with my family, or stay in Italy by myself, right now I'm really undecided because I've got a very close group of friends here and I'm fearing that the distance will drift us apart, but studying in a United Nations university could give me pretty important job oppurtunitie, even if as of now I have absolutely no idea what to do with my life.
What I want to ask to fellow Turkish anons is:
>How's the quality of life (infrastructures, hygiene, etc)
>Is freedom of speech as gimped as it seems to be?
>Is Erdogan that much of an asshole as they say (though I heard he had been very efficent as mayor of Istanbul)
>How are the women?
I could also just stay there for a year to see if its there i want to study and just coming back to italy if i dont feel like it is

but i would not stay in the same town i live right now, and i am planning to travel anyway, the subject of my question is another, wether to risk losing the people i love but having a better chance of having a fulfilling career, or stay with my friends but potentially never find a satisfying or even minimum wage job for the rest of my life

There are a lot of high quality roads, there is a tram line, you can pass the Bosphorus by ferry, nearly three airports and several train station.
This is not a point to worry about

Istanbul is one of the better cities at that point.

Yes, the Uni's are great. I don't know a lot about the high schools though. It's probably the same as here
