They're not, Assad is a small minority in his country, as well as the surrounding areas.
Spain has some phoenician (due to Carthaginian colony) and North African admixture, but very minute amounts, whereas Levantine Arabs are literally arabs as well as having turkish admixture due to Ottomans, and possibly some SSA due to Ottoman slaves.
