It would in Norway, but your economy would depend on where you live. I don't know too much about exactly how much kids cost, there is a bit of a chance your kids would be considered "poor", i.e. can't afford brand clothing and not going on vacation to Spain and Thailand every year, possibly limited options for activities after school too. I don't really know the costs. But you could probably afford a lifestyle that would be considered normal 30 years ago, you would probably be able to pay for house, food, clothes and a car. But beyond that, you may be poor.

Food is cheap and there is public school up until 18 so that would be okay

Probably not a very large one, since house prices here are expensive and I imagine you wouldn't have a huge amount of disposable income left after paying for a wife and 6 kids. If you were in London, you'd probably have to rent, since I doubt you could buy a house large enough to accommodate 8 people.
