Me and my wife (normies, flr the most part) are planning a trip to Japan, I would like to get some recommendations on what we should consider doing/seeing whilst we are there.
I have googled and all the lists are TERRIBLE, with recommendations like "try and speak Japanese" and "ride the train"...... I wouldn't mind seeing some weird shit, so any recommendations for that also recommended.

Fun fact: up until the early 80's this actually was a thing in schools here. At that point there was still regulation underwear for girls which had to be either grey or dark green and at some schools the head held daily inspections. Any panties not conforming to the standard were confiscated and handed back at the end of the day, as I recall.

This. It's the only place you can see the original medieval castles and temples. Everywhere else they bombed to shit in WWII.
Sapporo's also cool if you're into history. The samurai made one of their famous last stands near there.
A few of my favourite things:
- Spending a few days in a small town. I went to Hida-Takayama (pic related) which is a very popular tourist town but there's quieter ones around.
- Go to Hiroshima and look at all the nuke stuff. When there go to Miyajima and see the shrine on the water and climb the mountain.
- All the old shit in Kyoto. Go to Fushimi Inari shrine where there's a gorillion torii and also lots of stairs.
- Osaka aquarium was really cool if you're into that sort of thing but it was busy as fuck.
