Being kicked out at 18 or around then is not uncommon in America, no real reason to hold a grudge for 3 months of hippy life in Washington State. It wasn't like i was yelled out of the house, I was pretty much told I would be leaving at 18 from a young age and had my few things packed by my birthday.

I thought it was the norm in western countries to kick the child out the moment they turn 18. I mean, 18 is when you legally become an "adult", so it actually makes a lot of sense.

>>
>>59585836
It's not as uncommon as you make it seem either. It's a shitty mentality quite a lot of people have, that somehow the best way to help a child into adulthood is not prepare them for the trials they will face as a young adult and then dump them into the world of adulthood with no help or resources, and let them sink or swim on their own.

Some kids make it out of that okay, and they become decently functioning adults, but they're the lucky ones. Doing that is absolutely handicapping your child for the future. And unlike that guy, most people don't even have the luxury of any advance warning if their parents decide to do that to them.

You're right that a minority of parents in America do it but it's still a substantial group.

Retarded slav, moving out /= being kicked out.

Those people who get kicked out early literally have to work low income jobs for the rest of their lives for the rest of their lives to afford a home.

>>59586214
You were at least prepared for it. My father nearly kicked me out of the house shortly after I turned 18 with absolutely no warning when my mother was out. Wouldn't even give me more than ten minutes of time to figure out what belongings to pack into my backpack, or try to sell any of my possessions to make extra cash. Refused to give me access to stock in my name bought by my grandfather and intended to be a college fund "until I earned it", what did he think I was going to do if I had left? Come back to the home I didn't have? Call him up with the phone I didn't have and let him know how great I was doing and that I was going to college now so I'd totally earned it? If ever I would have needed to touch that money it would've been when I was jobless, hungry, and without any kind of shelter.

You had a lot more than most people have when they get kicked out at 18, a job, a car, and advance warning put you in a much better place to already improve your lot in life. Still being in school gave you a huge advantage as well in that you had showers (to continue to look presentable for work), could afford to spend less on food, and you had easy access to a wide social network of people who were ready and willing to help you. I work in a school now and I can guarantee you if you had only asked any of the teachers or guidance counselors, they would have done anything in their power to find resources to help you. The only reason I'm not homeless and I have the job, money, and plans for the future that I do now is because I managed to stall long enough for my mother to get home.

Can't you math igor?

thats 300$.

It costs around 3000000 roubles here (not Moscow if smth) that equals around 46,000$. And you need exactly 100 months saving 100% of your wage to buy it.
>>
>>59586385
the 2 hours saved by driving, if utilized by working, not only pay for the gas but also would pay off the craigslist car over time. Also, fucking everything besides corner shops and gas stations was 30+ min away so I would be cycling for hours anytime I wanted to go somewhere. Cars are just more realistic for America, bikes might work in denser areas but not rural Washington

That's the wrong outlook to have. Children need to be a priority, absolutely. And you'll have to sacrifice many things in life once you do have them. But you can't sacrifice everything. You need to show them how to function with multiple responsibilities, how to have a healthy and loving relationship, how to make friends, how to go out there in life and experience new things, how to be a well-rounded and emotionally fulfilled individual. And the way to do all that is through leading by example.

No. I personally know someone who was on antidepressants and a slew of other medication and going to college. His parents also have two younger children. They refused to feed him, withheld medication from him, and ultimately ended up kicking him out. They gave adequate care to the two children they were legally obligated to provide care for. Kicking your child out at 18 is not reflective of the child's failure. It's reflective of yours as a parent. You're responsible for where they are, if they're drug addicts, if they have mental issues, if they were never properly taught how to function in real life. If you won't help provide them with the tools they need to succeed in life then you have failed as a parent.
