I would say yes, generally, however there are a few factors which could make it socially tricky, albeit still effectively acceptable, for a heterosexual that is.
If the transgender person was in the same social circle as you prior to transition, it would probably come off as odd to be dating them as a heterosexual; at the very least you would likely feel uncomfortable and others in that social circle would have trouble coming to terms with the relationship.
If they are non-passing, it's a little tricky as well, as most people see non-passing types as debauched individuals of their original gender. Therefore it is tricky to have a socially sanctioned heterosexual relationship with them.
