All our state flags are just their old colonial flags, which consist of the generic british blue ensign + badge, with the exception of the Northern Territory which didn't exist as a colony but as a part of South Australia. they designed their flag in 1978, and then the ACT copied them a few years later

The South Carolina state flag is basically the Moultrie flag used by SC troops during the Revolutionary War. (Indigo field with crescent that says liberty in it). The palmetto tree was added because British naval fire bounced off the soft trees laid over sand walls during the Battle of Fort Sullivan June 28, 1776. All SC militia wore a silver crescent on their caps. Not Islamic at all.

Actually... The Coat of Arms is older than Swedish flag. It was first taken by Gustav Vasa's son who was titled "Duke of Finland", he then obtained this as coat of arms. Then later he made those flags the official state flag of Sweden (when he became King). So Swedish flag is based on the coat of arms, not the other way around.

I like this one for multiple reasons:
The glyph looks like something from an isometric puzzle game, or an "evil eye" of some sort.
It is a rare, yet tasteful use of the color purple in a flag. Purple is usually a gaudy color that gets all fucked up.
It's a better, more interesting pattern than the alternate gingko leaf flag.
