Administrative inefficiency, the government has a hard time imposing itself in distant areas of the country and even in impoverished areas of major cities.

In Brazil's case, there's a lack of investment in public education. Conditions vary from very bad to utter shit. Federal schools and Vocational schools are somewhat better though. This also extends to higher educations and R&D sector.

Lack of investment in infrastructure. This leads to higher costs and a competitive disadvantage compared to developed countries. Bad public services also impact society negatively.

Lack of initiatives to discourage institutional corruption, namely transparency and efficiency.

Populism and cronyism plague LA politics, ideological non-sense divides people and distracts them from things that really matter.

>What is the problem in South America?

Is the OP ignorant of the world and there are racial differences in populations that cause nations to succeed or fail?

Both Haiti and Japan are island nations, yet one is a shithole and the other is the 3rd largest economy in the world. If you took the entire population of Haiti and transported them to Japan and took the entire population of Japan and transported them to Haiti, do you think if looked at them in 10 years that Japan wouldn't be a shithole and Haiti would be a safe prosperous nation.

South America is shit because it is filled with South Americans who are a mixed mud race combined with a lazy southern european Spaniard culture.

Yeah, but a significant amount of these exports are from the so-called "maquiladoras" due to cheaper labor prices.
They don't detain technology or know-how over more complex manufacturing processes per se, which arguably is the most important factor.

>>59321835

Venezuela's issue is mainly corruption and following a failed socialist model.

They're the country with the largest oil reserves on earth and somehow they still manage to fuck it up. They literally only produce oil and don't have a diversified economy, while norway doesn't rely on oil as much, they're also big player in the fishing industry and tourism.

Nah, in that case natives would have been exterminated like most north american natives and people from islands in South Asia. North europeans sent formed families and people with studies. Iberia sent soldiers who mixed with the population.

There wouldnt be mestizos. There would only be descendants of those white colonizers. If you are a mestizo, you wouldn't be better, your race woudn't exist at all.

A lot of people here saying that it's due to lazy culture but at least here in my country everyone breaks their backs working in whatever there is available (m excluding subhuman gangsters here, of course), people graduating from universities are increasing every passing year, economy is shit but at least is increasing a little bit every passing year. The problems that I've seen at least here in my country are:

1.Some of the most corrupt politicians you will ever see in your life. Just to give you an idea recently our ex president was sentenced to prison because he stole 20 millions dollars that were destinated to help people that suffered economic troubles after the earthquake of 2001. Like to weeks after he was sent to prision he suddenly died, but of course his body was never shown, only pictures of his wife and children who obviously weren't sad at all, one was even fucking laughing. And this is just one example.

2.We leave in an extremely racist society where if you're brown then good luck finding a job at a bank or somewhere where you need to show your face, we are so brainwashed by western media that we put white people in a pedestal, and brown, native American people end up just going to USA because here no one give them jobs.

3.Having USA as our neighbor is the worst think that have happened to Centro America, well, since the birth of our countries. Their drug market is what keeps cartels and other criminal organisations alive in this region. And also is worth rememberin that gangs (who are the biggest problem in Centro America right know) didn't originate here but in USA, thanks to USA founding violent right wing death squads.

There is a lot more to say obviously, but I'm too lazy.

It is a known fact that people in poorer countries work harder than rich countries. The average Greek works much more time than the average German, it is just that the germans have way more capital (as in tech, machines, processes etc)

Absolutely right, but now the OMC bans the same protectionist policies implemented by those countries. So what is left, is to take baby steps and do some kind of soft export-oriented industrialization policies, like credit incentives for small companies and such.

How can you compare us with Europe when it literally received free money from America after WWII. Seriously WTF.

Just take a look at my country. It was the most promising one of the region, that's why it captured a lot of immigration, but it was cucked over and over during the last century in international trade and such, slowly losing it's position, then the military coups that cuked us more and nowadays with socialism, an experiment sponsored by left intellectuals, jews, and think tanks from Europe, it went all to shit to the point there's no way we can fix it.

8th biggest country in the world and literally underpopulated, with almost no armed forces, no planification, decaying infraestructure, fucking niggers everywhere.

And the only guy that at least cared about our country and tried to prevent that (Perón), was fucking coup'd and got his ass bombed and his party filled with commies.
Now it's an eternal struggle between liberals and socialists and we in the middle who are fucked.

But well at least I can say nobody helped us unlike Europe or Japan so it's something.

Besides the point, resource extraction nowadays is not what it was in the early XXth century. Just look at Australia and New Zealand. The "primary" sector is high-tech nowadays.

There are other countries like Venezuela or Argentina that love to hate the US. If someones shows some simpathy towards the US, they automatically judge that person as "vende patria" (anti-patriotic) and that's how the left has brought a lot of misery in those countries. They're brainwashed.

>Overspending corruption in the Brazilian school and how its done nothing
Yes, corruption is obviously one of the factors for the sorry state of our education in general, but it's widespread in governments institutions.

Obviously, we can't just dump money in the system and expect everything to work. We need a institutional reform to regain a sense of discipline and order in schools, and teachers should be decently paid for their positions. Schools are agents of change in impoverished neighborhoods.
>Tell that to the several manufacturing monopolies you guys have? Or how you have to drive to Argentina for a cheap car
We have inherited this from the military government to a lesser degree. You see, Brazil has a decadent manufacturing base. We're are clinging to the little we have left, so we instate protectionist policies, issue tax breaks and subsidize some of these industries to keep them here along with hundreds of thousands of jobs.
Car manufactures obviously exploit this situation to make insane amounts of conflicts selling shitboxes which have (until recently) the inefficiency of a '70s small-block v8 coupled with the displacement of European engines at exorbitant prices.

People keep buying these shitwagons instead of a used/Grey market car because a new car is a status symbol, similar in a certain way to Americans, their nice suburb house and mortgages, many people contract insane amounts of debt for it. This generates demand and allows for such abusive pricing.

Yes. This is pathetic. There really wasn't serious investment in productivity since Brazilian markets were opened to foreign companies in the early '90s, massive taxes and a complex tax code doesn't help either. The primary sector in comparison is prosperous thanks to high commodity prices and international demand, but it's inherently an extremely volatile market.

Very very rare. Stabbed would be more probable but it's unlikely too. When things like this happen they usually end up on the top news (if somebody is kill).

I grew up in the northern Ireland meme.
We didn't have things as tough as you.
Crazy shit is normal growing up. You don't realise its not how things should be.

Stop it with this self-hate dude. We have a lot of natural resources to generate wealth, the issue here is corruption and the internal conflict we've had for the past 50 years.

I love living here, but it'd be even better if we somehow managed to end that conflict and reduce corruption while growing our economy. ,

I don't think so... Chile has a pretty low homicide rate or at least lower than murica and pretty much all latin america....

Historically our economies were sustained mostly on exploitation of natural resources and agriculture. Upper classes had dozens of Native Americans and Blacks to boss over, and commodities were enough to make a living before the green revolution, so there was never much of a push towards industrialization.

The farmhands and miners were the majority of the population and largely illiterate and thus couldn't vote, our countries were technically democracies but due to the social divide and economic model operated like feudal states, leading to some really high economic divide.

Modern medicine and industrial farming allowed the rural workers to explode in numbers that couldn't have been possible before, and caused them to move from the countryside to the shitty areas of cities which quickly (a decade or less) turned into giant slums.

Commodities also began freefalling in prices, and the competitive advantage that Latin America once had (hands that would literally work for food) was made void by trucks and modern technology. Subsidies to the Agriculture in the United States sealed the deal, and Latin American economies lost the last bit of competitive for the only thing they had been doing for 400 years.

Government couldn't provide security to the people in the Slums so gangs quickly sprung up. In areas where Coca grew, farmers began planting it since it was a quick way to make cash. People in the Slums began to learn to read and write, and became eligible for voting. And they were pretty unhappy with the economic divide, so Communists sprung up.

Americans couldn't let Soviet-friendly states in their continent, so they quickly started supporting any retard that seemed capable of beating the commies, leading to civil wars and dictatorships. Most of the dictators were largely inept, so a lot of people still believe in the communist dream.
