There are reasons for this, eg. kids don't have to worry about earning a living or tight-knitting a family.
Adulthood is hard on the soul, and I don't know whether it is wiser to let kids grow carefree while they can afford to, or help them build a thick-skin for what's coming next. (Hint: why not both?]
