How do I come out to my parents as an Atheist? They're diehard Christians.
don't
>>59121035
Tell them. Watch your mother cry about it. Go back to playing vidya. Never hear it mentioned again.
That's how it was for me, anyway. I was a teenager at the time. Only told her so she'd stop forcing me to go to church twice a week.
When I turned 18, I told my parents I didn't believe in their dumbfuck god, and they didn't care at all. And they were pretty religious.
>Americans have to "come out" as atheists
Nice first world country m8s
Being an atheist is just as religious as being a theist. Zero proof for diehard belief.
>>59121035
With a shotgun, to your head and leave a note for them telling what you believe to be your religious belief. No way they can scream at you and you can see if you were right.
>>59121035
only if they ask you about your faith.
as long as they don't >>59121049
>>59121123
>Not beliving in a fantastic claim requires as much belief and is as justified in believing the fantastic claim
ok bud
>>59121123
Atheism is a religion the same way that not collecting stamps is a hobby.
>>59121082
at least we can
>>59121123
fuck off. Atheism doesn't mean that you're 100% sure that god doesn't exist. It just means that you are not theistic, meaning the concept of a god doesn't strike you as relevant since there is no proof of it.
>>59121161
>"there is CERTAINLY no god."
>"where's the proof?"
>"..."
>>59121035
Gradually. Just every once in a while when they make a statement that presumes you believe like they do, throw in an eyeroll or some subtle sarcasm. Eventually they'll get the hint and you won't have to deal with a confrontation.
>>59121164
>believing in god is like being a burger-eater when someone else isn't
Wow neat analogy
>>59121035
is this satire
>>59121194
>proving a negative
Do you even Occam's Razor?
>>59121146
>only if they ask you about your faith.
>as long as they don't
this is America, it's embedded in the daily practices of at least half of the population. You can't just ignore it and have it go away.
>let's pray as a family for Wednesday prayer night
>time to go to bible study
>time to go to youth group
>time to go to church at least 1x a week
>time to go to young life
>time to go teach sunday school
I was expected to do every one of these things every week until I left the parents house and they all take about 2 hours.
how can religions be real if your edge is real
>>59121284
>until I left the parents house
ok, so it's over? why do want you go through the hassle now?
>>59121265
Extracosmic ideals and entities go beyond mere human logic systems you asshat. There is no proof or disproof, which is my fucking point.
>>59121194
Burden of proof is on the affirmative claim.
>>59121364
You're either 14 or a moron, and probably both.
>>59121314
>ok, so it's over? why do want you go through the hassle now?
I'm not OP, I already told my parents. That was like 6 or 7 years ago and we still argue about religion on occassion.
I'm just trying to give an example of how pervasive it is. It's not like it's something they'll have to ask you about. Every time I went home from college it was immediately part of everything that you do... it's not like they would ever ask since it's just assumed you still believe.
>>59121423
Ah, damn. Got me. Guess I'm logging off to save face :^)
>>59121364
>>59121619
If you bothered to read anything I posted instead of just jumping in for the hell of it like a short bus student you'd know I don't defend the idea of a god definitely existing.
>>59121510
>>59121364
>>59121762
No, you just invoked some bullshit navel-gazing nonsense about cosmic muffins being so incomprehensible that we shouldn't ever bother trying to understand them, you fuckwit.
>>59121619
>my understanding of a deity is merely through anthromorphism and christian doctrine
open your mind
>>59121364
this comment is a piece of shit
>>59121789
Not about not trying to understand them, but being so euphoric to think that human proof systems necessarily apply to every potentiality ever conceived, whether extant or not necessarily :^)
You're a dense one my boy
>>59121510
>baja blast
This man is officially my friend
>mfw every christian on 4chan is a heretic and will be going to hell anyway
>>59121916
>blahblah everything is possible we dont know what we can't know
these arguments are absolutely worthless, they don't hold any value.
>>59121035
If you're relying on them don't, they'd probably disown you
