I've lived in Korea for about 3.5 years now, I've been a student for a most part and the last 6 months landed a decent job making about 60-80k/yr which is not bad for a 21 year old. This whole time I've lived in a shitty dormitory-like place near the university I attended for about $400/month. Keep in mind, $400 in Seoul doesn't get you much, not even a personal bathroom, and a cage-sized room.

In Korea, typically if you want to move into a place even remotely similar to a Western sized apartment, you pay up to 100-300 thousand dollars as a deposit and pay a fairly low rent price considering living in one of the most densely populated cities in the word (rent should be about $400-1500)

This is the part that rustled my jimmies. Even a graduate from the best uni that gets a job in the best company in Korea would rarely make 100k/yr for the first 10-20 years. So how in the fuck would an ordinary citizen ever be able to put down 200k before being 60 years old, just for an average sized/average luxury living space?

That's when I realized the only reasonable explanation is every single person living in a normal living space in Seoul (and ordinary people above age 28 do) is getting a bank to loan you the deposit money, which you pay interest for, to RENT a place. How the fuck is this not considered insane?

I understand cities in general are much more expensive. But nobody, even the top 3%, would be able to drop down 300k in their mid 20s/30s to rent a semi-livable place. How is this whole system not considered a fraud and why are the people not rebelling? topkek

The apartments in the pic would actually be considered luxurious housing in Seoul. Housing/apartments are completely fucked up here, with most apartment complexes having been built in the 60s/70s and no technological updates to the structures since then.

I mean, you shouldn't expect much living in a city with 30+ million people, NYC housing is not that different. Except people working/living in NYC can always afford to rent an apartment that matches their salary; while that's quite impossible in KR

Nobody is seriously religious here, the religious people don't live in the city and if you openly admit to being super-religious people tend to avoid you like the plague. There are some conservative Christians around but they tend to be 95 years old

Porn has always been censored on the internet here, but some random shit is allowed due to freedom of press laws, like /gif/. Or you could just, you know, VPN

Korean here. Normal middle class parents usually give their children 100k when they marry. So normal newly married couples start their marriage life with 150k~200k. They also get loan from bank and pay deposit for normal apartment. And I also confirm that picture above is luxury living place in Seoul. Those old apartments have more chance to reconstruct into tall spacy new apartment so that the older apartment is more expensive in Seoul. Seoul has limited space so land is really precious. The reason why people buy those rotten apartment with crazy price is that they want to buy share of land and buy development potential. I think the size of apartment of the picture may be 85m^2. Price is 1m ~ 1.5m.
>>
>how would an ordinary citizen ever be able to put down 200k
what. they wouldnt, and they dont need to. key money average is 8k~ US dollars. I dont know where you're getting your info from.
>>
>>59122123
I think OP means '전세'(Jeonse) system in which tenants pay big amount of deposit like 200k ~300k and do not need to pay any monthly rent except utility and management fee. It is quite normal in Korea and most newly wed couples start with 전세.
>>
>>59123271
Oh. He talked about rent so i thought he was talking about the key money + rent system.
It's a possibility to take into consideration though. You dont necessarily need to save 100~200k and go for 전세
>>
>>59123271
If you need that kind of money why not just get in touch with friends or coworkers and buy a house or a big apartment.
I used to live in a shitty apartment last year in college, but me and my friends decided to rent a huge house in a nice place in Mexico city, We live like kings desu, well compared to rest of my classmates.
Also, I bet there are some people in the business of second hand 전세, meaning that they pay the whole deposit and charge you a certain amount of money each month. Don't know tho, in Mexico people always come up with new ideas to make money from other's dispar, if that system were to be implemented in here, it would be massively exploited in a heart beat.

20% of the house is paid for in the initial down payment, that's $23,000.

The remaining balance on the home is $92,000.

This equals $15,000 per year, or $1,250 per month.

$45,000 per year income equals $3,750 per month.

Pretty simple.

>>
>>59126288
I've myself lived in the states, and the first point is definitely true. I was 18 at the time and most of my friends were 20-21. About 95% of them owned their own car and about 70% of them had their own place. And this was not even in a richer area. These kids were just making easy bucks working in retail or at car dealerships. I'm talking enough money to rent and take car of a car, along with going to a shitty comunity college.

The OP isn't refering to a RENTED appartment.
He referes to buying you some space in a housing complex and owning it.
By owning a Flat or house in housing complexe, you agree to pay some additional shared costs. Like cleaning of the stairways gardening if a communely used green area or pool is part of the complex you have to pay your mounthly share. Even if you don't use them. or if you would prefere to clean the stairs your self &c.
You also might get a special bill for trash, wastewater, water heating, electricity if the community of the housing complex is also a group purchasing organisation(so they pool their marked power to get a discount).

While this is rare in Europe it seams like it is the standard in Seoul.

Germans hate debt. It's ok for you. Do as you do!
Also only 4 bedrooms? Why? 4 bedrooms is a flat.

So you get the following for 115 k?
>House with 4 beedrooms(Why not 5...) including two bathrooms and a basement.
>Everything made of solid material (Porotherm bricks or autoclaved aerated concrete)
>Double walled construction to get allmost 100% heat isolation
>outside walls made of clinker so you don't have to bother to renow or paint the plaster.
>Trippel pane windows with elektric shutters
>Controlled air exchange with pollenfilter and recuperator
>State of the art heating or cooling with air heatpump
>Underfloor heating
>Used water energy recuperation (because it's only 500€)
>Pool + poolheating + dehydrating breather to get your pool room air dry

Pretty amazing...

>House with 4 beedrooms(Why not 5...) including two bathrooms and a basement.
I could have probably found one with five rooms, but I don't plan on ever having more than 2 kids so didn't see the point. It has a den that can become a room I guess

>Everything made of solid material (Porotherm bricks or autoclaved aerated concrete)
Double layered brick with cement, wood interior paneling, wood look aluminumsiding

>Double walled construction to get allmost 100% heat isolation
See above

>outside walls made of clinker so you don't have to bother to renow or paint the plaster.
I think clinker is ugly af

>Trippel pane windows with elektric shutters
Nope just double pane, manual. It's Texas. Never falls below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Electric shutters seem cool though.

>Controlled air exchange with pollenfilter and recuperator
A/C has a passive JET unit

>State of the art heating or cooling with air heatpump
Central A/C heating

>Underfloor heating
Unneeded

>Used water energy recuperation (because it's only 500€)
Don't know what this is. I assume some sort of waste water recyling?

>Pool + poolheating + dehydrating breather to get your pool room air dry
Pool is unheated. I'm thinking about getting a heating unit put in, but it's kind of pointless for the given environment and I like cold swims anyways.

Former expat in HK here.

This is East Asia in a nutshell. It's not exclusive to South Korea.

They populate their lands to barest subsistence, Malthusian-tier levels. I know doctors in HK who had shittier standards of living than many lower-middle class people in my home country.

That's another reason I'm opposed to mass immigration, just the sheer demand side pressure on housing prices and development makes things shittier for everyone.

East Asians are an urban race primarily who don't really care about nature, so they can deal with it better than we can.

You can get an apartment of the same size mentioned by >>59118898, about 45 tatami mats, for about 400K USD close to the center in Kyoto.
Kyoto is a city with clean air, lots of room for highly educated jobs, many universities, and every kind of commodity you'd expect in a large city (1.5m inhabitants).
It's not a problem of all of East Asia, although downtown Tokyo is a bid bad as well.

Coming back to that every time is really lame as fuck.

But from your behaviour and violent denial with long posts including your imaginary activities with friends you don't have I'll give you something universally accepted on the internet as an argument

Pics or it didn't happen, nigger

He's insecure as shit and thinks he has to live up to some image all the time, literally the most toxic scum a human can turn into. Even if you're completely friendless it's not a big deal, it's fixable. He resonates with petty shit and feeds off your energy, you should stop responding.

Why do americans always feel hurt on such a personal level from shitposts on 4chan?

>Can you not into reading comprehension?

You said "it's just one person again" I am with one person now. I previously was with two people. I stated I was with friend(s) earlier. At present I am with one.

>you seem like a gigantic cunt who whines about a typo and then fails to quote repeatedly
Don't really care about typos. I just like messing with Germans.

>You keep on making silly assumptions, niggerboy, try to think before you do.
Considering that you didn't believe that someone didn't have friends because they made fun of you on 4chins leads me to assume you're projecting.

>Coming back to that every time is really lame as fuck.
[Do you want to give up?]

>violent denial
I've been typing and saying you seem like you're projecting, how by any measure is that considered violent denial?

>your imaginary activities with friends you don't have
Again, why are you assuming that someone is making up having friends or doing stuff with them?

>Pics or it didn't happen, nigger
I went on a hike up a barren hill at night then got donuts. I don't have pictures of that. Or is that unbelievable to you too?

>asians and arabs go into wild rages

I've noticed Asians tend to get really angry. On a visceral level. You can almost feel the rage.

Not sure why this is.

Let me repeat this for you then:
Can you not into relevance?
I didn't ask you how your day was, faggot

>Don't really care about typos. I just like messing with Germans.
You wound me

> because they made fun of you on 4chins
More like because they are cunts late on weekday nights, your post about drinking while watching shitty tv and shitposting really didn't help your case

>[Do you want to give up?]
>implying that I have less stamina than an american
What's next, a weight-loss challenge? Kek

>how by any measure is that considered violent denial?
The emotional pain you seem to suffer

>someone
not someone, anyone or any other non-specific term for a person
Just you

> I don't have pictures of that. Or is that unbelievable to you too?
Once again the topic is what you're doing right now, niggerboy

Sensitive Person Syndrome?

I would agree. I think there are a number of reasons for this. East Asians are fundamentally a lot less irreverent than westerners. Thus satirical/ironic/sarcastic irreverence on the part of westerners is viewed as something fundamentally offensive by many Asians.

Secondly, there's the matter of "face". Gaining face, losing face etc. This ties into the first point in a fairly obvious way. Self-deprecation is not as common in Eastern societies.

The third point is self-pity. I think Asians have a fixation on the theme of self-pity, the idea of luxuriating in it. You can see this theme throughout Chinese literature, poets exiled by the Emperor lamenting their own misfortune over and over again, and the like. I think the point about self-pity explains why Asian Americans are fast becoming the ultimate whinority.

in europe its the norm to have buildings with brick walls, inside and out. and wooden doors. The drywall walls and flimsy interiour doors are really jarring to us

I thought it deppended more on what materials are readily available and how easy it is to get those resources there. Also how long term youre planning.
