Local purchashing index is actually the best, and most precise one. Of course, there may be some other indexes, where portugal is better, or worse, but they don't matter that much, when it comes to how much you can buy, with your standard salary.

The real question is actually why were we richer than you for so long despite having an uneducated primitive workforce.
The obvious answer to the real question is you had Commies running the show, there is no mystery here. Another thing is that we blew our EU funds on large useless public works, namely highways in the interior and Lisbon, while you use your EU funds to improve the productivity of your German-managed enterprises.
A final thing of note is that anyone with two working neurons will be seeking to leave Portugal in the near future, maybe I'll join the polish qt I met in Warsaw some day.
