How do you build up tolerance to listening to a language? When I listen to French I can understand 90% of it but after 5 or so minutes I just becomes so hard to stay focused as if that shit is trying to use 110% of my brain power to comprend it.
Ideas / suggestions?

Your question almost answers itself. You just have to listen to it a lot and you'll build up 'tolerance'.
Go live in France for a year or so.

*learned* my written / spoken french is awful. I can easily understand written french and my understanding of spoken french is pretty average but after 5-10 minutes it becomes really hard to focus and put words together.
