Race Wars mostly.
A bunch of Southerners let their pride go to their head and left the main country. So then they were like get off our rightful clay and blew up a fortress. So the President of the Mainland USA claimed that the fight was to reunite the country, and stop slavery but he really just wanted more power, like every politician. So he ordered a campaign across the CSA which led to most of Georgia being burned to the ground. And countless civilians dying.
Yet the North was the good guys xD
