Let's talk about language learning, fellas
Here's my damage:
I know that people always say the best way to achieve fluency in a language is through practicing every day, no matter what, even if you get sick of it. But what is the best way to practice?
I know that speaking to natives is one way, but what if you don't have that option? I see reading suggested a lot, but what if you come across phrases, idioms, etc that don't come across even when you look up the words in a dictionary? And as far as listening goes, what if you run into things that you just can't figure out? How can you learn from that?
Those have been my two biggest hurdles when it comes to language learning that I've kind of been struggling with for some years now. I have a familiarity with a few languages and can read/speak/write them to varying degrees but I've never achieved anything even close to the capability that, say, many of the non-native English communicators here have, and I don't know how to overcome the obstacles in my way.

I've been learning German for a year and a half, and I am still garbage at it
How do I keep myself motivated?
What are you trying to learn OP?
Memrise or Anki for vocabulary. It's good to do grammar and other things every day but it's absolutely necessary to keep learning or remembering words everyday. Words are everything and modern flash card programs are a fucking luxury people 50 years ago wish they had.

Same thing. What is it that's so tough about German, I wonder? I studied it in high school and was at the top of my class but I never got beyond that level.
Listening to music and varied media in the language usually does the trick when you know the basics.
That's the way i learned english anyways

just ask natives on the internet that, and in which case its far better to do it somewhere else outside of 4chan. i once did it on a subreddit when i couldnt figure out the grammar of a meme/slang by any means, and could get a valid answer.

Watch anime subbed in German and play video games in German.
Latin Americans, Eastern Europeans, and other third worlders said that's how they learned English.

Guess I'll give it a shot. Maybe it's a matter of motivation.

Its probably gonna be hard for us to learn another language fellas since we really don't need to. All these foreign fags have been exposed to English for a very long time through the internet, media, and school. There isn't much real incentive for us a to learn a language so its obviously going to be difficult to push yourself through.

Never heard much good about it. Apparently it sucks for grammar in particular.
