Are the Littoral Combat Ships really the future of naval warfare? I don't think it's been used anywhere. Maybe becase the US Navy didn't have a worthy opponent since WWII.
Could it be the next Dreadnought and the standard for any future ship designs?

I thought they utterly fucked up the construction and it ended up a rusting heap that was massively over budget.

From what I hear, the future of naval warfare revolves around new anti ship balistic missiles, such as the DF-21D and WU-10 china is developing. I hear they travel at mach 5-mach 10 and come down on a ship from directly overhead, and they're basically solid chunks of hardened metal, you can't really destroy or deflect them with anti missile systems before they punch through your ship and completely wreck your shit.
Anyway hopefully the US has worked out a way to counter this with their new, doubtlessly very expensive ships.
