What is the logic behind Galicia being part os Spain?

It's located in the Portuguese slice of the Iberian Peninsula and it speaks a language that's 99% the same as Portuguese.

I didn't know that one existed either.

This one is much more different from Portuguese. I can't only understand some words, something like 70%.

Also, can you understand 100% of what Scotts say? My English is fairly good and I find it difficult to do so.

I'd say 90-something percent. To me it just comes off like someone having a really thick scottish accent.

I've studied both German and (european) Portuguese. I can understand mainstream German pretty well but I'm completely lost with the Swiss. I also sometimes have a hard time understanding Brazilians, or people from Northern Portugal.

Galician is not that close to Portuguese, it is the Spanish dialect that sounds the closer to Portuguese but it is still a Spanish Dialect.

Well I don't. They're obnoxious, loud, and nobody understands them. Somebody should definitely nuke Scotland, most worthless piece of land in Europe right after Iceland, yet they glorify it as if there's anything interesting there. They even made up a fake monster who lives in a lake for Christ's sake just to increase tourism in the area, how pathetic is that?
I hope Britain votes for independence from the EU, then the Scots leave and that piece of shit country of theirs will slowly fall to ruin.

I took four years of it in high school. I got to reading level maybe 2-3 years in, the tricky part was learning all the tenses and cases. Once you do that you can learn quite a bit just by context.

I am not the same poster, but when I was in europe I had a galian guy saying that I was easier to understand than people from portugal. And I found scientific studies online backing up such claim.

Also, there is more than one video on youtube of Brazilians and Galicians talking on the telephone, I liked this one which is a joke with some fake friends:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8tXPDI1IPY

The comprehension is very high, I have an easier time understanding videos in Galician than even some Brazilian dialects.

Everyone speaks Spanish, and independent movements aren't a majority in any region (not in Basque Country and not in Catalonia). On addition, we're fortunate to have a very rich and diverse (actual diversity, not shitskin "diversity") country, with all regions having a very marked character, many ancient traditions and cultural artifacts and even languages. Galician, Basque, Catalan are Spanish languages, just like Castilian, they are promoted officially and taught at school.

Maybe you do understand spanish better than portuguese, maybe you're just speaking a dialect of spanish. You're not talking the truest form...
Galician has better spanified over the centuries,it's not like it was before, people even if they speak in galician they're not applying the old pronounciations and accents,a portuguese speaking gallician is how a galician-portuguese would speak during the 800s and so on
>>
>>58963402
>Galician, Basque, Catalan are Spanish languages, just like Castilian, they are promoted officially and taught at school.

My God, you've gone soft. The old Spanish empire would never have allowed such degeneracy. A strong, united nation requires a single, united language. Rebels must be crushed, heretics must be burned, until you achieve unity.

>>58964184
You're dumb. Do you realize most of those "nationalism" ideas are actually the residues of the justifications used for the political unification of Germany and don't apply to other countries?

Funny that you mention the Empire, because during that era Castile and Aragon were separate entities with their own governments and laws, it was the Borbons who unified the administration.

"Degeneracy" would be mutilating your nation's native culture in pursuit of some foreign ideas. Spain is very peculiar and its structure has never been unitary, rather the opposite.

Some interesting administrative stuff that is still in effect that you won't find anywhere else:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuero (did you know that Franco left the fueros of Álava and Navarra intact because those provinces supported him during the war?)
