How and why did Scotland, Wales, and Ireland adapt English as their primary language?
>>
Because they brits beated the language into us paddies.
I was told that they'd tie a rope around your neck and if you continued to speak Irish they'd tighten it. Not to mention the language was banned and education and writing through it was ileagal.

Is this a true statement or a meme? Also what time period did this take place?

>How and why did Scotland, Wales, and Ireland adapt

Scotland: Anglo-saxons moved in to the lowlands during the first migrations along with the other Anglo-saxons. English has been present in Scotland as long as England. Around this time, soon after, or something like that, Irish people moved along the west coast of Scotland. Many moved into sparsely populated highlands which didn't need to adopt English until relatively recent times of a couple centuries ago.

Wales: The Omega Cucks, yet ironically have best preserved their language and they have the highest literacy in their own language of all the Celtic peoples. I guess that's what happens when you're a good cumslut to your English overlords and don't mind nobody except the sheep

Ireland: Make Irish people dependent on potatoes; potatoes go bad, rural farmers who speak the language all die, only those living in the cities who know English survive, Irish language status: cucked and dead

Shit meme, the language is more than alive today.

Outside of Ireland. I was thought in school through the medium of Irish. Any governmental documents, bank statements/letters I get are through Irish. It's used on our cigarette warnings even.

While that's the largest majority community, there's several communities in Lousiana with lower percentages with higher populations

For example, Saint Martin Parish, at 44,000 people and 25% French speaking.

In fact, all together, the total native French speaking population of Louisanna all together comes to about 159,000, greater than the total number of native Irish speakers in Ireland.

Those languages had already been brushed aside by Latin during the Roman Empire.
>>
>>58930219

It's a forced meme. A language is nearly impossible to wipe out as long as people want to speak it. It's not as simple as "hey guys it's illegal now, stop speaking it". People will speak whatever they want inside their own house.

Besides, it's irrelevant now anyway if it was oppressed or not. For multiple generations now, there has been absolutely nothing stopping Irish people from learning Irish and speaking it.

The harsh truth is, they don't speak Irish because they can't be fucked to learn it.

I don't know, language/culture transmission/assimilation is probably just easier in "flat"/agricultural areas as opposed to mountainous/rural areas

Mesopotamia wasn't a consistent Roman province. I should've mentioned Armenian too btw, that survived.

The Akkadian language was already nearly dead by the Roman era, it had been replaced by Aramaic.

Not just French. Immigrants generally won't maintain their culture past the first two generations. If you think about it, it makes sense. Why would you expect people who left their country to maintain their culture?

>Why would you expect people who left their country to maintain their culture?

Errr...I don't know. Niggers and arabs do it, tho
>>
>>58931430
Niggers don't really maintain their culture, they developed a completely new one in America that has nothing to do with African culture. Arabs are a different case since they have a different religion.

>Those languages had already been brushed aside by Latin during the Roman Empire
That's false. Latin was a secondary language in North Africa. This French mulatto's father, future emperor Septimius Severus was born in Libya and his first language was Punic(Phoenician) and he was tutored to speak Latin and Greek but he spoke those with a thick accent. Roman historians noted Septimius was embarrassed his sister could barely speak Latin.

Yet literally all of you can speak English and Irish is only useful for taking to other people who are also native English speakers.

>How and why did Scotland, Wales, and Ireland adapt English as their primary language?

In general, English was/is the language of social advancement and general progress. Celtic languages were looked down as backwards, and had no status in schools and government. Specifically:

Scotland: The Lowlands were Germanic-speaking by the post-Roman period. The Highlands were Anglicized with the clearances.

Ireland: The Potato Famine killed a lot

Wales: English moved into the coal mines.

>Why did Americans kill French culture and language in America ?

Democracy in Action. Americans, other English-speakers and speakers of other languages moved into the lands of old New France. They eventually became overwhelming majorities. Again, it also had no support in schools or government.

In Louisiana, French lost its status after the civil war. French there began to die after World War 2 as Cajun moved up in US society and moved away.

The only exceptions, of course, are Quebec and its cultural penumbra, the "bilingual belt". Those places have been de-Anglicizing and Francizing for over a century now.
>>
>>58930635
Wales had language laws as well for a while, particularly post medieval period up until relatively recently (like within the last century iirc). Coupled with underdevelopment, you had to adopt English if you wanted to go anywhere (university, etc). At the same time, English moved into south Wales. Do th at for centuries and it'll hurt. North Welsh still speak it fluently, however.
