From what I've observed many people are still attending masses and declare themselves catholic. However, there are less catholics now than before 1989 and the 97% catholic is exaggerated. I think there is a decline, because catholic church in Poland is morally broken, is trying to interfere in even most private matters of individuals, is involved in politics and is too tied with state. I don't think it is normal to have a 90% discount when buying a new land or build a big and lavishly decorated church and at the same time demand from people to give money during a mass. I bet catholics would constitute around 50% of population when the church would be entirely funded by its members.
