Why are the inheritors of the Ottomans so shit? Is it because the Ottoman were really an Imperial polity that originated from but wasn't actually Turkish? I find it odd. Even Portugal has a solid legacy from their Empire.

Actually Saudis tried being the caliph just after caliphate was abolished in Turkey but Arabs did not accept them.
Egyptians tried it years later nobody accepted them either and now Egypt turned into more of a early secular stages of Turkey and they probably wont be running for caliphate for a long time
