Rules for "on" and "in":
"On" precedes a day of the week.
"In" precedes a month, year or other period of time (eg. in a minute, in a heartbeat).
If you think about the difference between "on a day" and '"in a day", it might make more sense.
"On a day" refers to a particular day on a calendar. "In a day" means "within a day's time".
